The technology behind SonicSmile

How does the SonicSmile™ Ultrasonic Technology actually work?

Cleaning dental products like aligners, mouthguards, and braces can be a challenge, especially when thorough hygiene is essential. SonicSmile has developed a technology that meets this challenge and takes cleaning to a whole new level. Here, we take a detailed look at how our ultrasonic cleaner works and why this technology is so effective.

Basic Principle of Ultrasonic Cleaning

Ultrasonic cleaning uses high-frequency sound waves to remove dirt and impurities from surfaces. This technology has been established in dental practice for over 80 years and has proven effective in thoroughly cleaning instruments and tools. SonicSmile has adapted and optimized this proven method for home use.

How does ultrasonic cleaning work?

Generation of Ultrasonic Waves: Our ultrasonic cleaner generates sound waves at a frequency of 45,000 Hz. This frequency is critical for ensuring effective cleaning. The sound waves are transmitted through the cleaning solution inside the device.

Cavitation: The ultrasonic waves cause the formation of millions of tiny bubbles in the liquid. This process, known as "cavitation," is the core of ultrasonic cleaning. The bubbles expand and collapse quickly, creating intense micro-currents.

Cleaning Effect: The energy released during cavitation helps to loosen and remove dirt, plaque, and bacteria from the surfaces of your dental products. This cleaning effect also penetrates hard-to-reach cracks and crevices that are often difficult to access with traditional methods.

Additional Disinfection with UV Light

In addition to the ultrasonic technology, the SonicSmile cleaner features an integrated UV-C light. UV light is known for its ability to kill and reduce microorganisms. Here's how it works:

UV-C Light Radiation: The UV-C light in the cleaner emits a specific wavelength that targets microorganisms like bacteria and viruses. These light rays damage the DNA of the microbes, preventing them from reproducing and killing them.

Additional Disinfection: The combination of ultrasonic cleaning and UV-C disinfection ensures comprehensive hygiene. While the ultrasonic waves remove dirt and impurities, the UV light reduces any remaining microorganisms on the surface of your dental products.

Optimized for Home Use

SonicSmile has adapted the ultrasonic technology so that it is ideal for home use. The device features a high-polish stainless steel tray that is not only durable but also easy to clean. The BPA-free plastic ensures additional safety and durability.
